Murray Stovell, retired from full-time pastoral ministry in 2007. At retirement
Murray was the Senior Pastor of Uxbridge Baptist Church, which had grown under
his ministry to become a congregation of 450 people. Over the 15 years of his
ministry at UBC he also provided leadership for the development of a Pastoral
Team of three full-time pastors. A dynamic and growing congregation, UBC
completed a major building expansion program of $850,000 in 1996 and retired the
debt in three years. Under his leadership UBC fostered an intentional focus on
local and global missions and developed a special partnership with Ghana Rural
Integrated Development, where he presently serves as its Ontario representative.
Prior to beginning his ministry at UBC, Murray served for 12 years as the
founding pastor of Heritage Green Baptist Church in Stoney Creek, Ontario.
Begun in 1980 as a house ministry in their own home, Murray guided HGBC through
successive years of ministry in a Public School and a Community Centre before
the successful building program for a 15,000 sq. ft. church facility seven years
later.
Following a successful business sales-management career, Murray sensed God’s
call to vocational pastoral ministry as he and Karin served on the ministry team
and were charter members of Inniswood Baptist Church, Barrie. In 1980 he
entered the pastoral ministry while still in his late thirties and studied
full-time at McMaster Divinity College while serving as the church planter at
HGBC.
From
2000 to 2007 Murray served on the Baptist Convention of Ontario & Quebec (BCOQ)
Board of Directors as an elected representative and was Chairman of the BCOQ
Credentials Committee.
Murray and his wife
Karin have been married for 44 years. They have two children, Shawn and
Shannon. Shawn resides in Toronto. Shannon and her husband Mark Shearer reside
in Woodville, Ont. with their two children Lael and Aiden. |
