Text: Luke 15:1-7

I SEEK YOU... GOD (cont'd)

Previous page

The truth is God is a seeking God who wants to be with each one of you, and asks you to allow Him to be saviour and leader of your life.

Let's look at our text in Luke 15:

Now all the tax collectors and the sinners were coming near Him to listen to Him.  Both the Pharisees and the scribes began to grumble, saying, "This man receives sinners and eats with them."  So He told them this parable, saying, "What man among you, if he has a hundred sheep and has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open pasture and go after the one which is lost until he finds it?  When he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing.  And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!'  I tell you that in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance." (Luke 15:1-7) (NASB)

The Pharisees complain that Jesus welcomes sinners and eats with them.  And in response, Jesus says, YES.  That is exactly right.  And He tells this story to show that they are exactly right.  He tells them this story to show them a true picture of who He is, of who God is.

A true picture of God - Jesus says he is like a shepherd.

And Jesus goes on to tell us the story of a particular shepherd

Now this shepherd has a lot of sheep

Each of these sheep are special to God, and each of them is important.  He loves each one.  And He wants each one to follow Him.
